The Soldier

Written by: Victor Swift

He went to war
To serve his country
The things he loved were left behind

He kissed his son
He hugged his mother
He said goodbye for good

“Get down” he painfully roared
They fell to the ground as the bullets soared
“I’m shot” he groaned to his friend
His blood filled his mouth as he tasted the end

He sacrificed it all for war

So many die to please a few
The cause they give is seldom true
Both sides are scared the wager’s high
For pretty things the world will die

His son still visits his grave
To pay his respects to a man far too brave
How can the bloodshed cease
If we use guns to bring world peace

Open your arms open your eyes
